Matt Cohen wins Innovator of the Year award

Matt Cohen, owner of ” Chef Matt Cohen’s New South Cafe at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum” has been awarded the 2008 Grace Award for Innovator of the Year by the Georgia Restaurant Association. Congrats to Matt!

Cha Bella’s New Year’s Eve Bash

Cha Bella (See Review) with United Way of The Coastal Empire will throw a big party New Year’s Eve, Wed., Dec. 31 the Charles H. Morris Center at East Broad and Bay Streets. The evening  will include jazz quintet Silver Lining featuring Joey Espina,  a set from Savannah Comedy Revue, a midnight champagne toast. Spirits expert Tim Rutherford will preside over tastings of small-batch Bourbon and single-malt Scotch at a special bar. Locally inspired hors d’oeuvres and sweets will be served all night long. A fully stocked premium open bar will pour throughout the night. Video feed from celebrations around the world. $125/person.

Holiday Tasting Menu at Bistro Savannah

Bistro Savannah, long a fav of us at SavannahBest.com, has joined forces with the Savannah Bee Company Honey House to create a tasting menu of unique honey flavored sauces, dips and flavorings to a luscious sounding Five-course tasting dinner. The menu ranges from appetizer,  Soy Charred Tuna with ginger-orange blossom honey dip and watercress to dessert of Almond Financiere, with raspberries and winter-white raw arctic honey. $49/person.   For more details, call Bistro at 233-6266.

More buzz about the Bee Company

Foody Tour Savannah has just added the Savannah Bee Company Honey House as its latest stop on its culinary journey through Savannah.  Foody Tour guests are treated to a sampling of five different honeys, plus a delectable plate of honeycomb, cheese, apples and berries. Ribbon Cutting at Savannah Bee Co. Honey House

City pols, Broughton business owners, restauranteurs, passersby were all buzzing sweetly at the official ribbon cutting at the Savannah Bee Company Honey House on West Broughton St. Lots of honeys were tasted, among them Tupelo, “the queen of honey,” Sourwood, and Organic Acacia, among many others. What a sweet gift to give for the holiday season!

Broughton St. Holiday Happening

Alligator Soul’s Maureen Craig

Maureen Craig, owner of Alligator Soul and among Savannah’s most gracious, generous and kind restaurantures, threw a party for friends and associates to “get us all out of our economic doldrums” at least for an evening. Fine food, lovely wines and great company did just that for a huge crowd. Kudos to Craig and to  Chef Chris Dinello!

Eos Second Saturday Wine Soiree

Shelley Smith and Brian Torres always put together wonderful events at Eos for their wine soirees. This one, on Dec. 13,  430 to 7 pm, promises to be extra-special! Benefitting the Savannah Children’s Choir, Roger Moss and Grey Curley will perform songs of the season. More than 50 lovely wines, plus heavy appetizers, will be served.  $50/person. Makes for a lovely evening for a good cause! 238-2400 for reservations.

The Distillery Now Open

The Distillery, housed in what was once a real distillery, holds the promise of being a fun place to sip and sup. Craft beer and ale, as well as craft liquor, plus an affordable menu seems to be right on target for good times.
