Savannah Restaurant Week

You’ll only get a chance to sample the finest restaurants in Savannah at these great fixed prices during Savannah Restaurant Week.  The last day is this Sunday, so get moving!  Just go to  http://dining.savannahnow.com and pick your choice.  Nearly all of Savannah’s top restaurants are available with enticing menus, $30 per person for a three course dinner of fine food.  Our top picks for the most interesting menus are those at Alligator Soul, Leoci’s Trattoria and the Driftaway Cafe, although all of them sound pretty enticing.

Pinkies is the Place to be Tomorrow Evening

Tomorrow evening, Wed: (Jan 30) 5:30PM C-Spot After Hours for Creatives: FREE –  Pinkie Masters, 318 Drayton St, Savannah GA  31401 Pinkies has been the site of more than one presidential campaign, as well as the campaigns of local politicians. It was, a few years ago, named “Best Local Bar in America” bu a major national magazine. Something about the place just draws great conversation, and that is what C-Spot is all about. Valentine Chocolate at The Mansion

Southern Cooking Class by a Master

Rebecca Lang, author, food writer, cooking instructor  amd a 9th generation Southerner will show you how to prepare a fine, ultra Southern dinner to wow your next dinner party guests. The event will be held February 7 at Kitchen Outfitters, im 12 Oaks Shopping Center from 6:30 to 9 pm. The recipes will come from her brand new book, Around the latest book, Around the Southern Table..                                                                     

The cooking class will feature a terrific menu that’s ideal for
casual, but elegant winter entertaining.

Menu: Coconut Fried Shrimp with Sweet-and-Spicy Peach Sauce,

Peppered Pork Roast with Blue Cheese Grits and Swiss Chard with Bacon Butter,

A delightful salad recipe to please everyone!

We all love a tasty salad, and it’s a plus that salads are even good for us!  So it’s extra nice to try a new one…. hence, I offer you this delicious recipe courtesy of Fresh Market:                                                                                                                           Fennel, Onion and Feta Salad:

Ingredients:
  1 large fennel bulb, thinly sliced
  1 small red onion, thinly sliced
  1 cup fresh mint leaves, roughly chopped
  1/3 cup O Meyer Lemon Olive Oil
  2 tablespoons O Champagne Vinegar
  1/4 teaspoon each of salt, pepper and sugar
  3 ounces feta cheese, crumbled
  of lemon slices, for garnish
Preparation:
Toss all ingredients in a mixing bowl, reserving half the feta cheese. Arrange on plates, and garnish with remaining feta and lemon slices. Serve Immediately.
