Blowin’ Smoke is blowing good stuff

Lots of us were happy when Blowin’ Smoke moved to the new Habersham location. And as an added bonus to not having to drive all the way to MLK, they added some delightful goodies to the menu. Since I love fish and love tacos, the blackened fish taco caught my eye right away….and proved to be every bit as good as I’d hoped. I’ve eaten so much Tilapia over the past fw years, I thought I’d grown tired of it…but not THIS tilapia! The beautifully seasoned blackening mix adds such good flavor, and the portion is large, to put it mildly! The addition of a mole sauce was perfect. My dining companion had the pulled pork enchilada with mole sauce. Seemed a bit more like a burrito than an enchilada, but purely delicious.

An Ode to Soft Shelled Crab and to Chef Chris DeNello

Soft shelled crab has been one of my five most favorite foods ever since I first tasted it some 25 years ago. So of course, when I saw it was among the specials a few nights ago at Alligator Soul, I immediately ordered it. These wonderful little creatures are only available about once a year, so when they are, I grab them! These proved to be, unquestionably, the very best I have ever eaten, any time, anywhere. Chef Chris DiNello’s amazing artistry in the kitchen never fails to astound me. These marvelous morsels were sautéed w/Seasoned Georgia Peanut, Organic Local Ground Ginger and L cal Corn Meal Flour. House made Kim Chi, Lemon Dressed Local Organic Red Sorrell, Cajun Steamed and Grilled Crawfish, Spiced Bourbon Caramel rounded off the dish, which was served with Creamy Freeman Mills Stone Ground Grits.

More than satisfied at Satisfied

On my most recent trip to Satisfied, I started off with their Flash Fried Asparagus as an appetizer. Now I love asparagus, and have eaten dozens of fried asparagus appetizers over the years, most of which I usually carefully extract from their coating and just eat the delicious green stalk. But their light and delicate batter is in itself filled with flavor, and I gobbled down every bite of it, all enhanced with a bit of mango aioli. Downright delicious!

Captured! The Elusive Quiche

I imagine most of you saw my wailing post of last week about my many attempts to land another of Chef Herve’s wonderful Quiche of smoked salmon and asparagus. Well, finally, I got one. And, yes, it was just as good as I’d remembered from that first time….light, delicate and overflowing with wondrous flavor. That smoky salmon and springtime fresh asparagus simply seem to marry into something for the angels to sing about. Plus, to top it all off, the light as air puff pastry crust is marvelous. Persistence pays!
