Macarons — Little Bites from Heaven

If you’ve never had a macaron, it’s time to head to Papillote and try one, or a half dozen, or a few dozen.  One bite of a macaron always seems to me like something fashioned by angels up in heaven.   Visualize subtly-almond flavored crispy meringue fashioned into cookies—a rounded one on top and a flatter one on the bottom, bound together by a buttery filling of raspberry, apricot, chocolate, lemon or lavender, or any of a seemingly endless assortment of all the flavors of the rainbow.  One bite of this cloud of crispy, creamy, delicious delicacy and I was hooked for life. So off to Papillote for the sweet munch of your life.

Alligator Soul Always Gets It Right!

What do you do  at the end of a miserably stressed out week?  Eat, of course.  But last night,  I didn’t feel like setting foot outside the house, but still….wanted something a little unique, something I couldn’t throw together myself.  So I sent my husband off to Alligator Soul in quest of their Sauteed Squash Blossoms!  Turned out that the prior week’s storms had damaged or destroyed most of the blossoms, but Chef Chris came to the rescue replacing them with julienned squash. We shared a giant plate of these….. bliss!

Quirky cocktails at Avia Lounge

The Post It Note, a muddling of raspberries with Pisco, lemon juice, simple syrup, bitters, and an egg white;  Playing Hooky has Effin Cucumber Vodka, Chipotle Vodka, Bloody Mary mix, Tabasco, celery bitters and muddled cucumbers rimmed with Old Bay and garnished with pickled okra.  These are just two of the intriguing new cocktails on special at the Avia Lounge for the month of August. Become an A-Lister (ask your bartender how) and you’ll get a special small plate to go with each.  Sounds luscious to us!
