The Blue Goose Cafe just opened

Friend of ours just called raving about The Blue Goose Cafe, a new restaurant he’d just tried. Had a Shrimp Po’Boy, he said, made with shrimp just off the boat in Thunderbolt, served with a homemade remoulade sauce. At 41 Whitaker St.,  formerly home to Sushi Zen, the place is open for breakfast and lunch till 3 pm every day but Sunday, when it’s closed. Starting next Thurs, however, they will open for late-night eats at midnight and stay open till 2 pm next day, every Thurs., Fri., and Sat. , according to owner Henry Sims. With so many late-night clubs in the area, sounds like a winner to us!  Great menu, too, ranging from some really upscale eats to downright recession-friendly affordable.

The New South Cafe to Close

For those of us who live in the Gordonston-Thunderbolt area, The New South Cafe was a treasure, and  we’re downright heartbroken. Matt Cohen is taking the whole operation and moving it to The Mighty Eighth Airforce Museum. Where will we ever get food as good as his?

New Wine Bar in Gordonston/Thunderbolt Area

After weeks of renovating  and remodeling, Matt Cohen has opened the first and only wine bar in the area at The New South Cafe. The Wine Bar offers fine regional, domestic and international wines. And they have expanded their beer selections. The Cafe’s menu now includes, in addition to Chef Matt’s signature dishes, some new additions for Fall, such as a Pecan-Crusted Pork Chop stuffed with carmelized bacon and Vidalia onions and a New South Panini Sampler

New Restaurants Coming to Gordonston/Thunderbolt

Two more eateries will soon open at Victory Crossing, across from Target and Home Depot. Both appear to hold the promise of good eating of very different kinds. Larry’s Giant Subs looks like it will be first, closely followed by a new Japanese Steak House, no name available yet. This little Gordonston and nearby Thunderbolt area seems gearing up to be one of Savannah’s growing munching spots. We already have two fine dining establishments, Kao Thai, and The New South Cafe. Plus Tubby’s, Johnny Harris, The Breakfast Place, Starbuck’s, and the just-opened La Xalapeno. Stay tuned for more!

IHOP to open at Victory Crossing

Lots of us in the Gordonston/Thunderbolt area have been hoping for a restaurant at this location, on Victory Drive at the Truman Parkway.  And we knew the likelihood was that it would be a chain restaurant. Applebees, perhaps, or Friday’s, or even Denny’s…. But IHOP?  Ah well, let’s just hope it doesn’t cut into the business of our really great, little locally owned breakfast-lunch spot, The Breakfast Place.  IHOP is scheduled to open sometime within a year.
