Sugar Daddy’s is sweetly promising

The recently opened Sugar Daddy’s Wine and Food Bar is the latest eatery to join the popular “small plate” trend in the downtown area.  On Jefferson, right off Broughton, the location couldn’t be better. With an extensive wine and beer list, plus a full bar and good food, this place should be a hit. Two of us have sampled on a couple of occasions. Naturally, we tried the ubiquitous Duck Confit Panini, moist, tender and aromatic with garlic and thyme, just as it should be. On another occasion, one of us tried to salmon salad–fresh greens, highlighted with red grapefruit segments and other delicacies. The Local Jumbo Shrimp was good, too, although I think the term Jumbo might be subject to conjecture. The shrimp rested atop a bed of fresh off the cob, nicely seasoned corn. The corn was lovely, but it was hard to see why the chef chose to be so stingy with its quantity when corn is among the least expensive of veggies. Desserts provide sweet decadence.
