Caraway Cafe a Big Winner !

Doubt that I’ve ever eaten a heartier, heftier, more delicious sandwish than the Tuna Melt I had yesterday from the Caraway Cafe at 202 E. Broughton St. This was light years away from the tuna melt that normally is some run of the mill tuna salad with a slice of American cheese melted over it. Here was a thick slab of tuna steak, grilled to perfection, and placed on a ciabatta roll. Filled with chunks of artichoke hearts, an interesting aioli-style dressing, bits of green, and topped with Gruyère, and accompanied by a lavishly large artichoke heart  salad,  the whole plate fed two of us hungry people with a fair amount left over to take home.  Lunch just doesn’t get any better than this!

Steak & Coffee, anyone?

New summer menu at The New South Cafe is all-around terrific. But the unique star of the show is the Coffee-Crusted Tenderloin of Beef!  We tought it sounded pretty strange, but knowing the talents of chef Matt Cohen and being big fans of the restaurant, we decided to give in to curiosity and try it.     This little gem proved to be, hands down, the best steak we’ve ever eaten!  Served with sour cream mashed potatoes, sauteed mushrooms (shitakes the night we were there) in an espresso cream sauce, the best all-new culinary find we’ve sampled in a long while.

It’s Official…

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is coming to Savannah!  We’d heard the rumors, but I just got off the phone with their corporate office, and they are indeed set to open in August of 2008!  Finally, a true steakhouse in our area.  Ruth’s Chris will be opening in the old Savannah Morning News building, near the newly renovated Ellis Square.  They will also have some outdoor dining space.  (4 months and counting…)

The arrival of Bull Street Chophouse is not far off.  An estimated six weeks in fact.  We have long awaited a great steakhouse and coming from the owners of Il Pasticcio, I’m sure it won’t disappoint.  We’ll keep you posted!
