A Lavish Mother’s Day Feast

Noted chef, Matt Cohen,  will produce a fabulous feast for Mom at his New South Pub at the beautiful Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum. Menu choices include creamy Shrimp and Grits, Squash Casserole, Broccoli Souffle, and Gourmet Mac and Cheese, along with a side of beef and a turkey carving station. Other brunch specials also available. Served from 11 am to 2 pm. $18 for adults; $9 for children under 10 years.

Good News for Devotees of The New South Cafe

Rumors have abounded about the fate of The New South Cafe, which recently closed its Skidaway Road location. Good news for the fans of this lovely spot! Chef Matt Cohen announces that The New South is relocating to accommodate a much larger and more spacious restaurant. It is now located just minutes from downtown Savannah in Pooler. “We outgrew our Skidaway Road kitchen and dining room.” Now at the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum, the restaurant, serving the same popular gourmet style comfort food, is open for lunch from 11 am to 2 pm, and starting in January will be open for dinner. Starting this Sunday, Oct. 19, Matt Cohen’s The New South Cafe will be serving Sunday Brunch, 11 am to 3 pm, at $18 per person, plus for another $10, all you can drink Mimosas.

Greenfest Culinary Challenge

At the Greenfest Culinary Challenge in Trustees Garden, it was Matt vs. Matt, starring Matt Cohen, chef/owner of The New South Cafe, and Matt Roher, chef/owner of  Cha Bella. The two Matts were not chosen for their matching names, but because organizers felt they owned the two greenest restaurants in Savannah. After an intense cooking session and an equally intense tasting and eating session on the part of the lucky judges, the winner was announced:  Matt Roher!

Steak & Coffee, anyone?

New summer menu at The New South Cafe is all-around terrific. But the unique star of the show is the Coffee-Crusted Tenderloin of Beef!  We tought it sounded pretty strange, but knowing the talents of chef Matt Cohen and being big fans of the restaurant, we decided to give in to curiosity and try it.     This little gem proved to be, hands down, the best steak we’ve ever eaten!  Served with sour cream mashed potatoes, sauteed mushrooms (shitakes the night we were there) in an espresso cream sauce, the best all-new culinary find we’ve sampled in a long while.

New South Cafe supports Coastal Pet Rescue

For one week this May, animal welfare workers and volunteers from around the world will meet in Orlando. Thanks to Matt Cohen‘s $1,000 sponsorship, six members of Coastal Pet Rescue will send six volunteers to the Humane Society of the United States’ Animal Care Expo!

We say Bravo! to the New South Cafe’s fine chef and dedicated humanitarian!
