A New Metamorphosis for Pino Venetico

A dozen or so years ago, Pino Venetico opened Il Pasticcio at the corner of Broughton & Bull and turned it into one of the most acclaimed Italian restaurants in Georgia, and some said, the entire Southeast.  But then the recession came, the restaurant business in general suffered, and a young newcomer showed up on  the scene who offered even more authentic Italian fare, and kept his prices lower. Il Pasticcio suffered.
So Venetico turned it into a more general, American style eatery called Broughton & Bull.  This one was very good too, but just never quite caught on.
Now comes La Vostra Cucina (roughly translated as Your Kitchen), promising new Italian pleasures and adventures.  Launch date scheduled for June 1.   Check out their website at  We’ll keep you posted!

Pino Venetico Waves His Wand

Pino Venetico waved his magic wand and almost overnight transformed an old favorite into what he clearly hopes will soon be a new favorite. It was sad to walk into the new Broughton & Bull, where for most of the 15 years I’ve lived in Savannah, I’ve spent so many lovely hours over cocktails or food or both at Il Pasticcio. But times change and restaurants change. A couple of weeks ago, sans fanfare or warning Il Pasticcio morphed into Broughton & Bull. Two of us stopped in for a quick sample of the new fare. I had the appetizer, frogs legs, served with a light chili pepper sauce and a hint of Gorgonzola. The legs appeared to come from a super sized bullfrog. Delicious, and the three of these guys were plenty for an entrée! My companion tucked into the big 9 oz. crab cake served with roasted corn salsa and some fresh baby asparagus. That, too, was a big bold portion, and excellent. Overall, the menu seems to be New South, with some Italian and French flair. Definitely promising.

We can almost taste it!

The arrival of Bull Street Chophouse is not far off.  An estimated six weeks in fact.  We have long awaited a great steakhouse and coming from the owners of Il Pasticcio, I’m sure it won’t disappoint.  We’ll keep you posted!

Something to look forward to…

As most of you know, we’ve long bemoaned the three Big Culinary Gaps in Savannah’s Dining Scene: the lack of a French restaurant, a real Chinese restaurant and a great steak house.
As we mentioned last summer, one of those gaps is soon to be filled, with not one but two, steak emporiums–Ruth’s Chris Steak House and the Bull Street Chop House, being built by the owner of Il Pasticcio.  Both have been delayed several times, but both are still in the works and promised in the next FEW months!
