Spice up your Valentine’s dinner

Here are some fairly common tidbits said to be aphrodisiacs:

Nuts and sesame seeds have an amino acid called L-arginine that enhances blood flow throughout the body.

  • Chocolate (70% or more cocoa) releases pleasure-enhancing endorphins in the brain. Researchers studying chocolate found it to contain phenylethylamine and serotonin, which are both “feel good” chemicals. They occur naturally in our bodies and are released by our brains when we are happy or feeling loving or passionate. It produces a euphoric feeling, like when you’re in love.
  • Oysters have zinc which produces more hormones in men and women. Recently, mussels, clams and oysters have been found to contain D-aspartic acid and NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) compounds, which may be effective in releasing sex hormones like testosterone and estrogen.
  • Licorice candy for women increases circulation throughout the body and can increase blood pressure. The smell can also be very stimulating.  
  • Chilies have capsaicin, which increases circulation and releases endorphins that make you feel good. Eating chili peppers generates physiological responses in our bodies (e.g., sweating, increased heart rate and circulation) that are similar to those experienced when having sex.
  • Garlic   (Just make certain you BOTH eat it!) increases circulation. Long ago, Tibetan monks were not allowed to enter the monastery if they had been eating garlic because of its reputation for stirring up passions.
  • Ginger has been deemed an aphrodisiac for centuries because of its scent and ability to stimulate the circulatory system.
  • Ginseng is another long-touted aphrodisiac. Recently, the Journal of Urology reported, “the Mean International Index of Erectile Function scores were significantly higher in patients treated with Korean red ginseng than in those who received placebo.”

Next Solar Social of Solar Champions is Tuesday, Feb 15, from 5:30 to 7 pm at SOL Fusion, 1611 Habersham.  Not only have the Socials been filled with good conversation, good excuses to partake of Happy Hour specials and tasty treats, but they have succeeded in implementing Solar Ready at Sustainable Fellwood. An Evening of Oysters and Wine

Sol Fusion speeds into high gear

Andrea Johnson,  Sol Fusion owner/manager took her time before making any major changes in Sol, which under the ownership of founder, Shelley Smith, had been one of those rare Instant Success stories.  But three  weeks ago, Andrea launched a new menu and the new name. Now, very soon, she and her co-owner husband will be closing on purchase of the building that houses the restaurant. Following this closing will come the renovations: expansion of outdoor tables and the addition of an outdoor bar; re-doing the entry  way to accomodate more seating, and adding a second bathroom!  In addition to adding more space for increasing numbers of happy patrons, chef Aaron Doyle keeps coming up with spectacular specials! Last night’s Curried Cauliflower Soup, for instance, and the Ancho spiced Lamb Tacos with mint mojo, cucumbers, shredded cabbage, crisp pea strips and cumin yogurt sauce were simply spectacular!

2011 Tybee Wine Festival

The Friends of Tybee Theater are at it again this year!  The event will take place on April 16th from 3-7pm on the grounds of the Tybee Lighthouse.  Get your tickets for the Tybee Island Wine Festival now for $45, after March 1, they go up to $50.  This years event will feature international wines, craft beers and tasty treats from some of Tybee’s best restaurants.  Visit to purchase tickets.
