Well, we pretty much agree, although I think it’s a close call between Mrs. Wilkes and Geneva’s…. But that $3.99 does sound like a heck of a bargain!

It’s not $3.99 but the best fried chicken I have ever eaten in my long life is at Mrs. Wilkes on Jones street in Savannah.

I drive by this place all the time which, by the way is on Wilmington Island as opposed to Tybee Island as indicated on this website.

For the longest time, I did not know it was a restaurant. It looks like a dental office from the outside. I have not been inside. I pulled into the driveway recently and was amused by the sign at the door offering “complimentary valet parking”. This is not a congested area and any space in the parking lot is no more than 50 feet from the door. My impression is that the place focuses more on fru-fru than food.

I was attracted to approach the place because recently they put up a big sign indicating they now have a brunch. Fusion Brunch?????

I think I will wait to hear a good review.

I just looked them up for someone, and according to Google it seems they’ve moved to 284 Pennsylvania Ave with a number of 912.235.3065. Haven’t gone to confirm it, but might try later this week.

Please forgive our error! Their phone was disconnected…. and we went over there a couple of times to see if they were still open and they were not. I’m assuming they must have closed up for a few days, then re-opened and got a new phone number. I’ll do a new post on them by tomorrow, for sure, as I think it’s the ONLY really authentic Mexican food in Savannah…..

YOU ARE COMPLETELY MISTAKEN!!! What a terribly awful piece of misinformation! I JUST had one of the best lunches to date at La Xalapena! THEY ARE NOT CLOSED!!!!! We’ve been eating there for months and trying to spread the word to increase business. PLEASE update your post as this will surely lead unknowing customers somewhere else, which will deprive them of some of THE BEST Mexican food in Savannah.
