Humus from Thrive!
I’ve eaten humus from coast to coast and all the way to Greece, and no question about it, the best humus I’ve ever eaten came from the Thrive stand at the Trustees Open Market. So good I could hardly believe my taste-buds.
Viva La France! Papillote is Open
It’s been months now since we first heard that a French take-out restaurant, Papillote, was going to open n West Broughton St. And we’ve been cruising by the address at 218 W. Broughton off and on ever since. Finally, they are open! I haven’t been there yet, but spoke briefly with Chef and co-owner, Herve Didailler, who comes from Brittany, in the northeast area of France, an area especially noted for its fine shell fish and superb pastries! For those of us longing for traditional French food, this sounds like THE place! The menu changes every day, he said, according to what’s in season and ”what I feel like cooking,” but it is all traditional French cuisine. The day of our conversation he had, among other things, a Bouchee with chicken, mushrooms and caramelized onions, a quiche with salmon and asparagus, a couple of tartines, and a mouth-watering array of tarts and other pastries. We’ll be there to check it out one day this week, and will report back!
New Restaurant to Open in old Queeny’s Location
None other than the indomitable dynamo, Shelley Smith, owner of he wildly successful Eos, will soon open her next enterprise at the old Queeny’s location at 1611 Habersham St., just a few blocks North of Eos. The new eatery will be more casual and less upscale (and more affordable) for those on a budget, but there’s no doubt in our minds that the food will be equally excellent! We’ll keep y’all informed!

Wild Blueberry Vinegar, anyone?
It’s delightful, it’s delicious! Low Country Gourmet Foods just opened at 123 E. Liberty St., provides a treat and a delight for every fastidious cook! Just go in in to their Tasting Room, where you can sample a tempting and aromatic variety of Extra Virgin Olive and Nut Oils, plus Aged Balsamic Vinegars. I walked in and came out with a Fig-infused Balsamic, absolutely delectable, which I’ve found only once before, in a little shop in Paris! It’s the perfect thing with which to season a delicate butter or frisee lettuce salad. No oil needed! And just for fun, I also came away with a Pomegranite Balsamic. Next time, I’ll get the French Walnut Oil. Gotta be great! And, probably, the Wild Blueberry vinegar…
