The Green Page editor of Savannah Best attended the latest monthly luncheon of Buy Local Savannah, this time held at the Charles Morris facility, and catered by Cha Bella. He returned from lunch stuffed to the gills and raving about the Grilled Hanger Steak Sandwich with sauteed mushrooms and melted Provolone with Beef Demi-Glaze. Already stuffed with this gargantuan sandwich, he then tucked into a large wrap with grilled chichen breast , fresh pesto, roasted peppers and Niman Ranch Bacon. Then he tackled the fresh baked cookies and brownies and spent the rest of the day groaning! ”It was wonderful?”

None other than the indomitable dynamo, Shelley Smith, owner of he wildly successful Eos, will soon open her next enterprise at the old Queeny’s location at 1611 Habersham St., just a few blocks North of Eos. The new eatery will be more casual and less upscale (and more affordable) for those on a budget, but there’s no doubt in our minds that the food will be equally excellent! We’ll keep y’all informed!

We got an excited phone call at SavannahBest this morning from a woman who’d spotted “Georgia Caviar” on the menu of a restaurant we’ve mentioned. She wanted to know where she could find some, what kind of fish it came from, etc. So, for all you folks who are relatively new to these Southern states, Georgia Caviar is a dip made from black eyed peas, chopped jalapenos, and a variety of spicey spices. Sad to say, it’s not the eggs of some exotic fish swimming about in Southern waters. Wish it were!
